Just over 2 months ago GM pulled all paid advertising from Facebook. Less than a month ago, they announced they were reconsidering that decision and today, they fired the marketing head responsible for the decision according to the LA Times.
Joel Ewanick suddenly resigned on Sunday afternoon and the only explanation offered up by a GM spokesman was that “Joel failed to meet the expectations the company has of its employees.”
GM has been in the midst of a massive overhaul of marketing strategy over the last couple of months. A week after announcing that GM was pulling all Facebook because they weren’t effective, Ewanick announced that GM would not be buying ads for the SuperBowl this coming year.
He want on to explain that while SuperBowl Ads were effective automotive advertising, they weren’t effective enough to warrant the massive expense.
